Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a carboxylic acid chloride from a carboxylic acid in an excellent yield.
The method for producing a carboxylic acid chloride comprises reacting a carboxylic acid or its salt with a chlorinating agent such as phosgene, phosphorus oxychloride, thionyl chloride, etc., in a solvent composed of a nitrile such as butyronitrile, isobutyronitrile, etc., separable from water. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a catalyst such as an N,N-disubstituted amide, a nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic compound, a tertiary amine, etc.
