Abstract:

To provide a method for industrially and easily producing high-purity carboxylic acid chlorides for color coupler intermediates having good hue and not containing a sulfur component giving bad influences on a photographic performance.

This method for producing carboxylic acid chlorides for color coupler intermediates comprises reacting 1 mol monovalent carboxylic acid with 0.5-1.0 mol phosphorus oxychloride in the presence of 0.2-1.5 mol N,N- dimethylformamide in ≤10C aromatic solvent and then removing the by-product by a liquid phase separation.
