To prevent cellulose ethers from being discolored at the time of drying.
The cellulose ethers heated to about 50-130°C and containing a solvent are charged to a drier, and the charged cellulose ethers containing the solvent are dried while preventing dewfall in the drier to prevent the discoloration of the cellulose ethers. In the method, the cellulose ethers may be dried while blowing a gas into the drier. It is effective for preventing the dewfall in the drier that the temperature of the wall in the interior of the drier is kept at about 90-130°C, or the temperature of the blown gas is regulated so as to be about 90-150°C, in addition to regulating the temperature of the cellulose ethers so as to be about 50-130°C. A gas having ≤10 vol.% average oxygen content can be used as the gas to be blown into the drier. As a result, the cellulose ethers having 0-50 granules/g average content of black granules can be obtained by this method.
