To provide a method for the efficient production of a new chloroprene copolymer composed mainly of chloroprene monomer and an olefin monomer using a half-metallocene catalyst.
This chloroprene copolymer is produced by copolymerizing a 2-10C olefin monomer and 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene monomer in the presence of a transition metal compound expressed by the formula RMX3 (M is a group 4 transition metal; R is cyclopentadienyl group, a substituted cyclopentadienyl group, indenyl group, a substituted indenyl group, fluorenyl group or a substituted fluorenyl group; M is bonded to R through π-bond; and X groups are each independently H, a halogen, a 1-12C hydrocarbon group, a 1-12C alkoxy group, a 1-12C alkylamide group or amino group) and a cocatalyst.
