To provide a method for producing coated paper for offset printing, with which nonuniformity of white paper gloss being a problem characteristic of coated paper for offset printing having a high basis weight of ≥170 g/m2 and reduction in qualities of ink receptivity and printing gloss are largely improved.

In the method for producing coated paper for offset printing by coating one side or both sides of paper and then carrying out calender treatment, a coated sheet having ≥170 g/cm2 basis weight is smoothed by a calender apparatus with which the hardness of a cover material of an elastic roll is ≥D 90 hardness defined by JIS K 6253.
