Abstract:

To provide a method for producing cumene by hydrogenating decomposition of 2-phenyl-1-propanol in the presence of a copper or palladium catalyst, wherein the method for producing cumene has excellent effect of being able to produce cumene from 2-phenyl-1-propanol in a high yield.

Hydrogen is brought into contact with a catalyst at the start of reaction. The preferable exempla of the catalyst are copper-carbon, copper-silica, copper-alumina, palladium-carbon, palladium-silica, palladium-alumina and the like. Wherein, the contact temperature of hydrogen with the catalyst is preferably 0-350C and more preferably 50-300C and the contact pressure of hydrogen with the catalyst is usually 0.1-10 MPa.
