Abstract:
To produce cyclic carbonates with excellent economical efficiency and in high yield by removing water produced as a byproduct using economical calcium carbonate.SOLUTION: A method for producing cyclic carbonates comprises a reaction step of reacting polyols and carbon dioxide in the presence of a zinc compound and calcium carbonate. The zinc compound is preferably at least one of zinc iodide, zinc trifluoromethane sulfonate, and zinc p-toluene sulfonate. The reaction step is preferably performed by using N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone as a solvent. The reaction step is preferably performed at a temperature of 165 to 180°C. The reaction step is preferably performed under a carbon dioxide pressure of 3 to 5 MPa.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
