Abstract:
To provide an efficient and cost-effective process for manufacturing a melt-processable fluoropolymer with a low melting point and high thermal stability.SOLUTION: A process for manufacturing a semi-crystalline fluoropolymer [polymer (F)] is provided. The polymer (F) comprises: more than 50 mol%, preferably 51 mol% to 70 mol%, more preferably 55 mol% to 65 mol%, still more preferably 60 mol% to 65 mol%, of recurring units derived from tetrafluoroethylene (TFE); and less than 50 mol%, preferably 49 mol% to 30 mol%, more preferably 45 mol% to 35 mol%, still more preferably 40 mol% to 35 mol%, of recurring units derived from vinylidene fluoride (VDF); where the molar contents of the recurring units are based on the total moles of recurring units in the polymer (F). The process is implemented by emulsion polymerization in an aqueous polymerization medium without addition of one or more surfactants.SELECTED DRAWING: None
