Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which hydrogen can stably and efficiently be produced for a long period utilizing a mixed microbial group and a hydrogen- fermenting microbial group.
SOLUTION: This method comprises passing an organic substrate through an anaerobic bioreactor comprising a methane-fermenting microbial group held in a fluidizable manner while making the organic substrate stay over a hydraulic residence time longer than a proliferation time of a hydrogen-producing microorganism in the microbial group and shorter than a proliferation time of a hydrogen-consuming microorganism in the microbial group and producing the hydrogen with the microbial group proliferating in the bioreactor against the passage of the organic substrate. An organic waste can be utilized as the organic substrate and the bioreactor is preferably a once-through type complete mixing type bioreactor.
