To provide a method for producing an indene compound polymer and effective for easily improving the weight-average molecular weigh and the yield in the cationic polymerization of a copolymer containing an indene derivative monomer and an unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon or a cyclic ether monomer as essential components.
An indene compound polymer is produced by using 5-95 pts.wt. (based on 100 pts.wt. of total monomers) of an indene compound monomer and 1-50 pts.wt. of an unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon or a cyclic ether monomer having at least one double bond as essential components and polymerizing these monomers together with 0-70 pts.wt. of a cation-copolymerizable monomer in the presence of a polymerization initiator composed of a dihalogen-containing compound expressed by the formula (R6 to R9 are each H or a 1-12C hydrocarbon group; A is a bivalent group; X1 and X2 are each a halogen atom; and (1) and (m) are each 0 or 1) and an acidic catalyst. The invention further relates to an optical part, or the like, produced by using the polymer.
