To provide a method for producing an indene-containing polymer, capable of improving the yield and the weight average molecular weight, and further to provide a molding material, a film or an additive, obtained by using the indene-containing polymer excellent in low absorptivity of water, heat resistance, mechanical strength and optical characteristics, and to provide a component for optical use by using the same.
This method for producing the indene-containing polymer is characterized by the twice or more addition of a Lewis acid at the time of the start of the cationic polymerization reaction of 100 pts.wt. total of a monomer component (a) of 5-99.5 pts.wt. indene or indene-based monomer represented by general formula (I), and a monomer component (b) of 0.5-95 pts.wt. monomer represented by general formula (II) in an aromatic organic solvent and/or a halogenated organic solvent, and after the start thereof till the finish of the consumption of the monomers during the reaction.
