Abstract:
To industrially and advantageously obtain a long chain amino alcohol expressed by formula (1): HO-R1-CH(-R2)-N(-R3)-R4 (R1 is a 5-10C straight chain alkylene or branched alkylene in which H in the straight chain alkylene group is replaced with an alkyl group; R2 is H or an alkyl; R3 and R4 are each H, a monovalent saturated hydrocarbon or a monovalent aromatic group, or R3 and R4 are mutually bonded to form a divalent saturated aliphatic group).
This method for producing a long chain amino alcohol is to react a hydroxycarbonyl compound expressed by formula (2): HO-R1-C(=O)-R2 with a nitrogen-containing compound expressed by formula (3): H-N(-R3)-R4 and hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogen addition catalyst.
