Abstract:

To reduce shrinkage cavity (cavity caused at the head part) as much as possible in a method for producing a metal ingot by using a cold crucible furnace.

In the method for producing the metal ingot 22 by melting a metal raw material 46 by using the cold crucible furnace, in which a high frequency coil 18 is arranged around a water-cooling copper crucible 16, in a non-oxygen atmosphere, and then solidifying the molten metal 48 in the crucible 16, after, the head part of the molten metal 48 is heated by using a non-moving type plasma torch 28 in a solidifying process (c) of the molten metal 48. In this way, the solidification of the furnace in the head top part is delayed, thereby reducing the shrinkage cavity 50.
