To provide a method for producing metal nanoparticles with the use of a build-up type production process by a liquid-phase reduction method, which obtains metal nanoparticles that show such low-temperature sinterability as to be usable for an electroconductive material, from metal ions that are easily reduced such as ions of noble metals, even if a reducing agent having a strong reducing power is used.
The method for producing the metal nanoparticles includes: mixing a mixture containing a protective agent (1) for metal colloid and a metal compound with a mixture containing a protective agent (2) for metal colloid and a reducing agent to reduce the metal compound. It is preferable that the reducing agent is at least one inorganic reducing agent selected from hydrazine and a hydroxyl amine or at least one organic reducing agent selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl-amine-based compound, a hydrazine-based compound, a phenol, a hydroxy ketone and an enediol.
