To provide a method for producing an olefin, by which water-insoluble impurities can be reduced, wherein the water-insoluble impurities are substances which poison a hydrogenation catalyst, when a dienic compound contained in a 5 to 10C hydrocarbon component is selectively hydrogenated to produce the olefin, and/or quality-inhibiting substances, when the selectively hydrogenated hydrocarbon component is used as a gasoline base material.
This method for producing the olefin, comprising selectively hydrogenating the diene compound contained in the 5 to 10C hydrocarbon component into the monoolefin, is characterized by including a process for washing the hydrocarbon component with water to remove the water-soluble impurities. The method for producing the olefin, wherein the hydrocarbon component is washed with water and then selectively hydrogenated.
