Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing an optically active α- aminonitrile and optically active α-amino acids are obtained from the aminonitrile. The α-aminonitrile is obtained by asymmetric synthesis in high yield and with high stereoselectivity without synthesizing an imine even when starting material is unstable.
SOLUTION: This method for producing an optically active α-aminonitrile is comprises reacting an aldehyde compound and an amine compound with hydrogen cyanide in the presence of a chiral zirconium catalyst obtained by mixing a zirconium alkoxide with a binaphthol compound.
