To provide an industrially suitable method for producing an alkali metal salt of a β-oxonitrile derivative, by which the alkali metal salt of the β-oxonitrile derivative can be obtained in a high yield and by a simple method.
This method for producing an alkali metal salt of an oxonitrile compound represented by the general formula (3) [wherein R1 represents a group not participating in the reaction and R3 represents an alkyl] comprises reacting a carboxylic ester represented by the general formula (1) [wherein R1 and R2 each represents a group not participating in the reaction; provided that R2 is not hydrogen] with a nitrile compound represented by the general formula (2) [wherein R3 is the same as defined above] and a base at 145 to 300°C in a closed vessel.
