Abstract:

To provide a method for efficiently producing a polyhydroxyalkanoate the monomer unit of which has an aromatic-substituted group.

This method for producing the polyhydroxyalkanoate comprises using bacteria, wherein at least one kind of compound selected from substituted alkanes expressed by formula (1) (R is a residue having a substituted aromatic ring; and (n) is 1-8) is used as a starting compound, and the bacteria having polyhydroxyalkanoate-producing activity are cultured in a culture medium containing the compound of formula (1) so as to make the bacteria produce the polyhydroxyalkanoate which contains at least one kind of the monomer unit selected from substituted 3-hydroxyalkanoate units expressed by formula (2) ((m) is 1-8) in its molecule.
