To provide a method for easily producing a porous ceramic hollow fiber membrane in which airtightness in a terminal seal is satisfactorily ensured.
A membrane is produced by a dry-wet process from a spinning solution prepared by highly filling powdery ceramics or a powdery metal into a solution of a membrane-forming high polymer in an organic solvent, a terminal portion of the resulting wet composite membrane is crushed and the membrane is fired to produce the objective porous ceramic hollow fiber membrane. One to about several hundred such single-sealed porous ceramic hollow fiber membranes obtained by this method are housed in a ceramic binding tube comprising alumina, zirconia, titania, glass or the like and the housed membranes are effectively used as a hollow fiber membrane module for gas separation or the like without carrying out sealing treatment required so far after the housing.
