To provide a method for producing high-purity astaxanthin crystal from Phaffia rhodozyma at high yield by an industrially advantageous method; and to provide pharmaceutical products, beverages and cosmetic products containing high-purity astaxanthin crystal derived from Phaffia rhodozyma.

The method for producing purified astaxanthin crystal includes: a step of preparing astaxanthin rough crystal obtained from Phaffia rhodozyma and having impurity derived from the yeast and odor derived from the impurity; a step of bringing the obtained astaxanthin rough crystal into contact with 1-4C alcohol which may contain water; and a step of removing the alcohol and obtaining astaxanthin crystal with reduced impurity and odor.
