Abstract:

To provide a method for inexpensively producing a synthesized rutile of high quality from ilmenite ore.

This production method comprises heat-treating the ilmenite ore to oxidize it and convert it into a stable crystal phase consisting of two phases of (pseudobrookite + rutile), and selectively acquiring the rutile phase by sorting them out by using a magnetic field. The method forms a composition consisting of rutile (an R phase) and a pseudobrookite solid solution (a P phase) through oxidization at a comparatively low temperature in comparison with a titanium slag method, and sorts them out by using magnetism, so that the reduction of a large amount of energy and a cost can be expected; in addition, does not cause a problem of producing a large amount of waste that causes environmental pollution; and has simple treatment steps comprising the oxidation step and the magnetic separation step, so that the cost for the apparatus can be reduced.
