To provide a method for producing a starch derivative-containing aqueous emulsion which contains a starch derivative having excellent water resistance, solvent resistance and mechanical characteristics and in which the starch derivative is stably dispersed, and which is inexpensive and greatly contributes to environmental load reduction.
In the method for producing the starch derivative-containing aqueous emulsion including a modified starch forming step for forming a modified starch by substituting a radically polymerizable functional group for a portion of hydroxide groups of the starch; and an emulsion polymerization step for emulsion-polymerizing the modified starch and a radically polymerizable monomer in an aqueous solvent, the degree of substitution of the radically polymerizable functional group is in the range of 0.01 to 1 in average value per sugar residue of the starch in the modified starch forming step.
