Abstract:
To provide: methods for producing sulfonated pulp fibers with excellent handleability; and methods for producing sulfonated fine cellulose fibers with excellent transparency.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method for producing pulp fibers in which some of hydroxy groups of cellulose are sulfonated from pulp. The method includes a chemical treatment process for chemically treating pulp. The chemical treatment process includes a contact step of bringing a pulp fiber constituting pulp into contact with a sulfonating agent having a sulfo group and urea and/or a derivative thereof, and a reaction step of introducing a sulfo group into some of hydroxy groups of cellulose constituting the pulp fibers after the contact step; and between the contact step and the reaction step, there is included a drying step for drying the pulp after the contact step. Thus, sulfonated pulp fibers having excellent handleability can be produced.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
