Abstract:

To provide a carried ruthenium oxide catalyst which is characterized by small activity lowering, and a production method for chlorine by oxidizing hydrogen chloride with oxygen in the presence of the carried ruthenium oxide catalyst.

The carried ruthenium oxide catalyst has 13 to 16 m2/g specific surface area and the catalyst is used in the production method for chloride by oxidizing hydrogen chloride with oxygen. Preferably, the reaction temperature is 100 to 500 °C and the reaction pressure is usually atmospheric pressure to about 50 barometric pressure. As an oxygen raw material, air may be used as it is or pure oxygen may be used. Though theoretical molar quantity of oxygen to hydrogen chloride is 1/4mol, 0.1 to 10 time theoretical amount is usually supplied. Further, the amount of the used catalyst in the case of a fixed bed gas phase stream system is usually about 10 to 20,000h-1when expressed by GHSV as the ratio to a feeding rate of raw material hydrogen chloride under atmospheric pressure.
