To provide a titania-silica mixed crystal particle which is low in agglomeration degree of primary particles despite a fine particle having large specific surface area, has not developed in a steric structure in which the primary and secondary particles are connected to each other and is easily dispersible or suspensible in an organic or silicone polymer composition, and also to provide a production method for the mixed crystal particle and its use.
This titania-silica mixed crystal particle is produced by decomposing gaseous titanium halide and silicon halide both heated to 600°C or higher in the presence of oxygen or water vapor heated to ≥600°C, heating the obtained particle at 300-600°C to reduce the hydrogen halide concentration thereof to 1.0 mass% or below, and then charging the resultant powder into a container having rotor blades to perform an agitation by a peripheral speed of 4-60 m/s. The obtained particle has a BET specific surface area of 10-200 m2/g and a bulk density of ≥0.15 g/cm3 and <0.8 g/cm3.
