To provide a method for purifying a glycerol acetal by which discoloration is not caused even by carrying out a reaction in the presence of a basic catalyst using the glycerol acetal after long-term storage as a raw material for various kinds of organic syntheses, and a method for producing an alcoholated substance of the glycerol acetal with suppressed discoloration.
The method for purifying the glycerol acetal selected from the glycerol acetals represented by formula (1) or (2) [wherein, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different and denote each H, a 1-22C alkyl group or a 12C alkenyl group or an aryl group having 6-30 total number of carbon atoms which may be substituted; and R1 and R2 or R3 and R4 may be bound to form a ring] by distillation comprises adding a base before carrying out the distillation and then heat-treating the glycerol acetal. The method for producing the alcoholated substance comprises alcoholating the glycerol acetal purified by the method in the presence of the basic catalyst.
