To provide a method for separating (Z)-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and 1-chloro-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropane, which are difficult to separate from each other by an ordinary distillation operation, on an industrial scale.
In distilling a mixture containing (Z)-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and 1-chloro-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropane, the mixture is subjected to extractive distillation in the presence of at least one compound selected from the group consisting a halogenated hydrocarbon represented by the formula [wherein X is hydrogen (H), fluorine (F), or chlorine (Cl); n is an integer of 0-3; and m is an integer of 0-2], a halogenated unstaturated hydrocarbon, a nitrile, a ketone, a carbonate, an ether, an ester, and an alcohol. The method can give a practical and high-purity objective compound and is therefore industrially advantageous.
