PURPOSE: To confirm the cross-sectional shape of an object having a definite cross section subjected to screen printing or hot stamp printing.

CONSTITUTION: A jig 1 holding an object 10, a rotary drive means rotating the object 10 through the jig 1, first and second linear drive means respectively linearly moving the object 10 in an XX direction and a YY direction crossing each other at a right angle within the plane parallel to the cross-sectional surface to be recognized of the object 10 through the jig 1 and a probe 2 having a contact element moving along the straight line in the XX direction passing the reference point Z set within the plane to measure the dimension from the reference point Z of the object 10 to the surface thereof in the XX direction are used. By this constitution, in such a state that the matter 10 is held to the jig 1, at least one of rotary motion and the linear motions in the XX and YY directions is applied to the object 10 using each drive means and, on the basis of the motion quantity at that time and the measured value due to the probe 2, the cross-sectional shape of the object 10 is confirmed.
