To provide a method for recovering a divalent or trivalent iron complex having 1,4,7-triazacyclononane compound used in a reaction as a ligand, as a trivalent iron complex reutilizable as a catalyst, in an atom transfer radical reaction.
In an atom transfer radical reaction using, as a catalyst, a divalent or trivalent iron complex obtained by coordinating a specific cyclic amine compound to an iron compound, there is provided the method for recovering a trivalent iron complex comprising, after the reaction, subjecting a reaction mixture to the following steps (1) and (2): the step (1) in which after the reaction mixture is treated with oxygen, the iron complex and the reaction mixture are separated, or after the iron complex and the reaction mixture are separated, the iron complex is treated with oxygen; and the step (2) in which the iron complex obtained in the step (1) is treated with a halogenating agent.
