Abstract:

PURPOSE: To recover homogeneous and pure UF6 of a desired isotope existence ratio by subjecting a high U235-content alloy to a fluorination treatment, subjecting the formed gaseous mixture to a distillation treatment, recovering the pure UF6 and mixing the same with a low UF6-content substance.

CONSTITUTION: The alloy consisting of U of preferably the high content of U235 and another metal elements as a base is preferably pulverized to a divided form and thereafter, the divided alloys are subjected to the fluorination treatment with an F-contg. gas. This treatment is preferably executed by a single-stage treatment using the F2 diluted with an inert gas or a two-stage treatment using the gas of the F2 base after the treatment with HF. As a result, the gaseous mixture and the solid residue are recovered. The gaseous mixture contains an oxyfluoride and a noncondensed gas when O exists in the starting raw material in addition to U in the form of the gaseous fluoride. The solid residues are incompletely combustible and non-volatile. The gaseous mixture described above is then subjected to the distillation treatment, by which the pure UF6 and the fluoride of the other elements are discretely recovered. The pure UF6 of the extremely high content and the UF6 of the extremely low content are thereafter mixed.
