Abstract:

To provide a method for reducing not only Fe oxides or Ni oxide but also Cr oxides in a byproduct containing valuable metals including Cr, with carbon, by irradiating the byproduct with a microwave in a specific condition to locally and efficiently heat a mineral phase containing Cr.

The reduction method includes the steps of: mixing a carbonaceous material with the byproduct containing the valuable metals including Cr so that the carbon equivalent can be 0.5 to 5; placing the mixture in a single-mode microwave cavity or a controlled multiplex-mode microwave cavity; and irradiating the mixture with the microwave under the condition of an electric field strength of 100 V/m to 11010 V/m.
