Title:
METHOD FOR REFINING MOLTEN IRON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6026605
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To refine molten iron without producing slag by reacting impurity elements in the molten iron with iron chloride to gasify and separate the elements, and condensing and recovering the gasified products.

CONSTITUTION: Molten iron chloride or gaseous iron chloride is injected into molten iron 11 in a reactor 1 with a carrier gas 12, and it is reacted with Si, Mn, Ti, Nb, S, P, etc. in the molten iron to gasify the elements as gaseous chlorides 10. The produced gaseous chlorides and unreacted gaseous chloride are introduced into condensers 3, 4 to recover SiCl4, SiO2, MnCl2, TiCl4, NbCl5, SCl2, etc. by making use of difference in m.p. and b.p. The recovered compounds are utilized as starting materials. By this method the molten iron can be refined without causing iron loss, and the concn. of C is not changed.
