To provide a method for stably producing alcohol for a long time, capable of reusing a degraded catalyst for alcohol production with reduced activity or alcohol selectivity in the production of alcohol by hydration reaction of an olefin with a solid acid catalyst having heteropoly acid or a salt thereof supported on a carrier.SOLUTION: A catalyst for alcohol production with reduced activity or alcohol selectivity is recycled with a recycling gas containing water vapor in a temperature range of 150-350°C.SELECTED DRAWING: None
