Abstract:

PURPOSE: To restore the cutting performance and wear resistance of a tool without causing pollution, by immersing the tool in an aqueous soln. contg. nitric acid and sulfuric acid, carrying out setting, and coating the set surface with ceramics by an ionic plating method.

CONSTITUTION: A tool such as a file for an ironworker or a band saw is immersed in an aqueous soln. contg. 10W40% nitric acid and 2W6% sulfuric acid, and setting is carried out. The set surface is coated with ceramics such as TiN, TiC, WC or Al2O3 up to about 3W15μm thickness by an ionic plating method. By the regeneration high durability is provided to the surface of the tool without polluting the environment.
