To provide a more safe hair straightening or relaxing method comparatively effective with those of conventional methods.
The hair straightening or relaxing method includes: a step (a) of pre-alkalizing hair by contacting hair with an alkaline composition having pH bout 8.0 to about 10.5 to give alkalized hair; a step (b) of rinsing-off the alkaline composition from the preliminary alkalized hair; a step (c) of preparing the linearizing or relaxing composition of hair to give (i) at least one non-hydroxide base at about 0.1 to about 50 wt.% and (ii) a surplus medium allowable as a cosmetic up to 100% (the whole weight is based on the weight of hair linearizing/relaxing composition); a step (d) of forming treated hair by contacting hair with the hair linearizing/relaxing composition; a step (e) of rinsing-off the hair linearizing/relaxing composition from the treated hair; an optional step (f) of treating the treated hair with a non-volatile oil; and step (g) of making smooth the treated hair by heat and physical means.
