Radioactive materials are removed by strong acid after adding univalent or divalent strong acid or hydrogen peroxide solution to sludge containing radioactive materials to decompose organic materials. The strong acid is nitric acid or sulfuric acid, and the concentration of the strong acid is 5.0 M or less.
