To provide a method for repairing an inorganic fiber block, subjected to frictional wear by the gas flow in a heating furnace or deteriorated through reaction on a scale, conveniently and effectively when inorganic fiber blocks are used for lining the heating furnace.
In a steel piece heating furnace having side wall and ceiling lined partially or entirely with blocks produced by folding an inorganic fiber blanket in zigzag, laminating and bonding small pieces of inorganic fiber blanket, or heat treating a bulk of inorganic fibers under static pressure, an unshaped material containing 30-70 vol.% of inorganic fibers is applied to recesses made in the surface of the inorganic fiber block through deterioration during use and flattened and then the inorganic fibers mixed with a binder is sprayed to the surface of the inorganic fiber block and the surface of the unshaped material thus repairing the lining of a heating furnace.
