Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide linear algorithm which restores a three-dimensional structure and the movement data of a camera directly from dots, lines, and/or image intensity.
SOLUTION: A reference image is photographed at a reference perspective point and a series of images are photographed at one or more different perspective points (step 201). Image data shifts of the respective images from the reference image are derived through the parallel movement and/or rotation of a camera (step 203) to constitute a shift data matrix including the image data shifts (step 204). A factor matrix (three-dimensional structure matrix) of rank 2 corresponding to the three-dimensional structure and a factor matrix (movement matrix) of rank 2 corresponding to the movement of the camera are calculated (step 205) by using singular value decomposition(SVD) and a linear equation is solved to restore a three-dimensional structure from the three- dimensional structure matrix by using SVD (step 206); and the restored three- dimensional structure is used to restore the movement of the camera from the movement matrix (step 207).
