PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress making the cross section in the width direction of a slab into a dog-bone shape and making the planar shape of the slab into a fish-tail shape. SOLUTION: After cutting the slab 2 sent out of a continuous casting machine 1 into a prescribed length with a cutting device 3, by rolling-reducing the high- temp. slab which is threaded through the transportation line S in the width direction with dies 23a, 23b having enough contact length to the edge parts in the width direction of the slab 2 by mutually approaching and separating a pair of dies 23a, 23b of a width press device 20 for slabs, making the cross section in the width direction of the slab into the dog-bone shape and making the planar shape of the slab into the fish-tail shape are suppressed and, furthermore, by rolling-reducing the slab 2 in the thickness direction with a horizontal rolling mill 21, the cross-sectional shape in the width direction of the slab is flattened.
