Title:
METHOD FOR ROUGHENING SURFACE OF METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01240678
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To roughen the surface of a metal with arbitrary pitch and satisfactory depth by projecting laser beams to partially melt the surface of the metal and by removing part of the molten metal with jetted assist gas to form recesses in the surface of the metal at prescribed pitch and a filiform solidified metal on the surface of the metal.

CONSTITUTION: Laser beams 1 are condensed with a lens 2 and projected on the surface 3 of a metal to form molten pools 8 at prescribed pitch. Part of the molten metal 4 in the pools 8 is removed from the pools 8 by jetting assist gas 9 from a nozzle 5 and the removed molten metal 4 is solidified to form recesses 7 in the pools 8 as well as to form a filiform solidified metal 6 on the surface 3. The recesses 7 and the metal 6 provide a complex three- dimensional pattern to the surface 3 to roughen the surface 3. By applying this surface roughening method to titanium or an alloy thereof, a three- dimensional pattern fit for an artificial bone can be provided to the surface.
