In this method for sealing the joint of staves, when a plurality of staves are disposed in the inside of the furnace wall in the metallurgical furnace, the joints between the staves disposed at the vertical direction are sealed by using a sealing rope 3a and the joints among the staves adjoiningly disposed in the horizontal direction are sealed by hitting in a hitting material 4b composed of a bent steel sheet onto the joint, and a sealing rope 4a is put at the upper part of the stave at the lower step and a fixed plate 6 is set on the sealing rope 4a and the upper step of the stave is disposed at the upper part on the fixed plate. The fixed plate 6 is formed as the shape, in which the one end of the plate material is vertically bent to the plate surface and the other end of the plate material is vertically bent in the reverse direction to the bending direction of the one end, and the length of the portion except the vertical bending parts of the plate material, is equalled as the thickness of the stave.
