Abstract:
Separation of butenes and butanes by extractive distillation with a polar extractant comprises extractive distillation of a butene and butane containing stream with a polar extractant to yield a butane containing head fraction and a sump fraction comprising butene and the polar extractant and distillation of the sump fraction into a low b. pt. fraction containing butene and a high b. pt. fraction containing the polar extractant with recycle. A process for the separation of butenes and butanes by extractive distillation with a polar extractant comprises: (a) extractive distillation of a butene and butane containing stream with a polar extractant to yield a butane containing head fraction and a sump fraction comprising butene and the polar extractant and; (b) distillative separation of the sump fraction from (A) into a low b. pt. fraction containing butene and a high b. pt. fraction containing the polar extractant whereby the high b. pt. fraction is recycled to step (A).
