Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method with which copper can be reused as a melting raw material by easily and efficiently separating and recovering the copper and the iron from scrap mixed with the copper and the iron through melting process and further, a little amount of noble metal used for various kinds of products treated as the scrap together with the copper can be separated and recovered.
SOLUTION: In this method, when the scrap mixed with the copper and the iron is melted in non-oxygen atmosphere, Fe-P-Cu ternary system molten material is formed and also, sufficient amount of the phosphorus (P) for separating molten iron phase and molten copper phase, is added before melting and/or during melting. Further, melting temperature is lowered by adding carbon (C) and also, the solubility of the copper in the molten iron phase and the solubility of the iron in the molten copper phase can be reduced.
