Abstract:

PURPOSE: To form a uniform and fine globular carbide in a short time at a low energy cost at the time of spheroidizing a high-carbon chromium bearing steel by primarily spheroidizing the steel under specified conditions, and then secondarily spheroidizing the steel under different cooling conditions.

CONSTITUTION: A high-carbon chromium bearing steel specified by the SUJ2 of JIS-G4805 is heated and held at 780-820°C, then cooled below the Ar1b point at the rate of ≤200°C/hr, primarily spheroidized, then heated to a temp. between the Ac1b point and the Ac1b point plus 40°C, secondarily spheroidized, then cooled below the Ar1b point at the rate of ≤200°C/hr, further heated to a temp. between the Ac1b point and the Ac1b point plus 40°C, then cooled below the Ar1b point at the rate of ≤75°C/hr and spheroidized twice. A uniform and fine globular carbide equivalent to the case where the steel is spheroidized more than three times is obtained in this way.
