To provide a method for the safe start-up of a catalytic vapor-phase oxidation reactor to enable the reuse of exhaust gas.
The method for the start-up of a catalytic vapor-phase oxidation reactor receiving at least an oxidizing object and a gas containing molecular oxygen to effect the catalytic vapor-phase oxidation reaction is characterized in that the concentration of the oxidizing object to be supplied to the reactor is below the lower explosion limit concentration of the object (excluding 0 vol.%) and the oxygen concentration is not lower than the explosion limit oxygen concentration of the oxidizing object. The operation in the explosion range defined by the composition of the oxidizing object and the molecular oxygen- containing gas to be supplied to the reactor can be avoided by the invention and the reactor can be started up in excellent economy and safety by reducing the supplying quantity of the dilution gas.
