Title:
METHOD, STRUCTURE, AND COMPOSITION FOR DELIVERING NASOLACRIMAL DRUG
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2017060789
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an implant for delivering drug which implants and holds the drum at a desired tissue position, and controls a release of the drum at a desired therapeutic level over a duration period.SOLUTION: An implant 100 to be inserted into a lacrimal point of a patient includes a body. The body includes a distal terminal, a proximal terminal, and an axis therebetween. The distal terminal of the body can be inserted into a lacrimal canaliculus distally through the lacrimal point. The body includes a therapeutic drug contained in a drug core 110 of a drug matrix 170. By exposing the drug matrix to lacrimal fluid, the therapeutic drug can be effectively released into the lacrimal fluid over a duration period. In order to avoid a release of the therapeutic drug away from the proximal terminal, the body includes a sheath 120 provided so as to cover the drug matrix. The body also includes an outer surface configured to be engaged with a lumen wall tissue in order to avoid being eliminated when arranging therein. Further, the drum matrix contains a non-bioabsorbable polymer such as silicon in a heterogeneous mixture with the therapeutic drug.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
