Abstract:

To provide a method for the surface modification of any polymeric material or any polymeric base of a device through easily immobilizing a polymer thereon.

This method for surface modification comprises the following practice: the surface of a polymeric material is coated or impregnated with a photoreactive compound capable of generating radicals by light irradiation, and the polymeric material thus coated or impregnated is irradiated with light in a monomer solution to initiate a radical polymerization of the monomer on the surface of the polymeric material with the photoreactive compound or the radicals generated from the compound as polymerization initiator, thereby the objective surface modification is accomplished owing to a graft polymer thus formed on the surface.
