To provide a system for drying unhulled rice efficiently in thick layer and a method for drying rice tastefully.
Grain holders 2 are arranged in multistage in a drying chamber body 1 substantially in the horizontal direction and an infrared heater 3 is disposed above. Grain supporting face 29 of the grain holder 2 is formed of a gas ejection face 29 having multiple small holes. Grains are fed from the upstream side of a dam member 35 provided on one side of the gas ejection face 29 to form a grain layer M which flows naturally toward the dam member 35 side while being stirred and fluidized by ejecting gas of thin cross-sectional area from the gas ejection face 29. The grains are dried while regulating the thickness of the grain layer M on the gas ejection face 29 by the height of the top face of the dam member 35.
