PURPOSE: To obtain a method and a system for identifying failure in a factory for manufacturing and packaging products in which a failed part in the factory is pointed for an engineer and the engineer is guided and assisted to repair the failure in order to shorten the downtime required for the maintenance or repair of the machinery.
CONSTITUTION: The failure identification system comprises a first memory section 20 for storing each failure occurring if a factory, and rules for specifying the procedures being used in the determination of failure. Each rule is assigned with a memory section for taking account of the cost of inspection procedure relating to the probability of failure and forms each group arranged in corresponding priority. The system determines the type of alarm for identifying the failure and acquires an alarm recognition data for identifying a mechanical part from which an alarm message or a failure is generated. Subsequently, the system designates a rule of priority related to the determination of an inspection procedure being executed based on the alarm recognition data. When the output from the inspection procedure is NO, an inspection procedure following to that of the highest priority is used until a failure is identified or other hypothesis is eliminated.
