Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for non-ablative acne treatment and prevention.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method and system including applying ultrasound energy 72 targeting an area including a pilosebaceous unit structure 68 to treat existing acne and prevent future acne from developing. The ultrasound energy 72 has many physiological effects including raising the temperature within the area comprising the pilosebaceous unit structure 68 at specific depths below a patient's skin, and treating acne. The physiological effects include, in a region of interest 12 (ROI12) including the pilosebaceous unit structure 68 and an associated sebaceous gland 70, reduced sebum, increased perfusion, denatured protein, creating of uninhabitable environment, initiation of programmed cell death, and initiation of physical effect.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
